Removing Weeds in the Secret Garden of our Hearts

Removing Weeds in the Secret Garden of our Hearts

I love my Secret Garden but it is only a few of my interests.  One of my biggest problems may be the fact that I have too many interests. The Lord must surely smile when considering me for His service. I love scrap booking, card making, rug hooking, and anything to do with fabric and colors. That is the craft side of me – then there is the collector’s side of me to consider too. I love antiques, china cups, china in general, silver plated items and on top of all that – I love the challenge of organizing. Sounds like I should be an Interior Designer! I guess that is why I am one by trade. (Stories on that in another post). There is yet another passion that has never left me; that would be gardening and landscaping. No matter where I end up, a garden seems to always be a priority for me. I love all aspects of gardening.

I have learned the secret to keeping weeds at bay.  When most people weed they usually spray, pull, till or dig.  I have found the best way to tackle these little devils is to dig.  You must get the whole root system of that weed in hopes that it will not be able to sprout again.

If I pull the weed, the root system is still intact and is guaranteed to show its ugly head again. If I till the weed, it is sure to multiply. It is only when I dig deep and discover the path the root system is taking that I have any hopes of removing my recurring problem.

This must be the same scenario that my Master Gardener (Jesus) sees in my Secret Garden – my heart. You would think the simplest way to purify a heart would be to pull the weeds (those things I struggle with) and say “there it is finished, I have asked forgiveness and I am done with it.” The reality is that often I must look deeper to the root system that supports those continuing struggles I am dealing with.

The Bible says that only Jesus knows my heart – therefore He is the only one who can take me down the sometimes painful path to see where my root system stems from. It is then that my Secret Garden is one step closer to perfection.

“…then hear in heaven your dwelling place and forgive and act and render to each whose heart you know according to all his ways (for you ONLY know the heart of all children of man kind)…”

1 Kings 8:39

Welcome to the place I refer to as my 'Secret Garden' that place where the real me is revealed. What you will discover is that I love God, almost everything I do is centered around that relationship. I love helping others to find that relationship as well. I also love Vintage everything, landscaping, gardening, paper crafting and urban homesteading. -Valerie
